Gravy Cube Steaks

Delicious Cube Steaks

Ingredients:

4 medium size cube steaks
1 cup flour
1 tablespoon seasoning salt
1 teaspoon meat tenderizer (optional)
¼ teaspoon Salt & Pepper to taste
1 medium Vandalia or Sweet Onion
¼ cup of vegetable shortening
1 cup water
Mushrooms (optional)

Cube steaks will be mastered according to individual tastes.

Lightly sprinkle meat tenderizer on cube steaks and gently poke a knife in the steaks in a few places. Let sit for about 20 minutes. This is optional because as you saute your steaks they will become tender. Peel and slice onions.

Using low to medium setting, heat vegetable shortening in skillet. Pour flour in plate and add seasoning salt, salt and pepper, mix together. Lay one cube steak at a time into flour to batter. Turn over and completely batter both sides. Place steaks in heated shortening for frying. Steaks should not cook too fast. Lightly brown both sides of steaks. The steaks should fully cooked in about 10 minutes. Remove from skillet and place to the side. Cook additional steaks if necessary and sit aside also. Once all steaks are cooked, drain any additional shortening out of skillet. Do not wash skillet.

Place skillet on low to medium heat again. Pour in 1 cup of water and add all the cooked steaks and sliced onions and mushrooms. Let the steaks sauté in skillet and continue to turn over from time to time. As the steaks are sautéing use a fork to break up the breading. The breading is what will make the gravy become thick. As the steaks sauté, the gravy should become thicker. Add small amounts of water and a little flour if necessary for thickness.

Steaks can sauté for 45 to 60 minutes to get desired results.

Now enjoy your delicious with your favorite side dishes.
